Here’s a list of the agencies and programs Trump’s budget would defund entirely

Bostonglobe.com – What follows is a list of the major programs, agencies, and initiatives that President Donald Trump’s budget proposal calls for eliminating funding for entirely, and how much those cuts are estimated to save.

In many cases, the proposal calls for ending these efforts because the Trump administration believes they are wasteful, outdated, duplicative, their impact is unproven, or they handle matters that should be funded by states or private sources.

Some of the cuts below are similar to ones outlined in a previous, less-detailed budget proposal the administration released in March.

That previous blueprint only included proposals related to what’s known as discretionary spending, the portion of the federal budget that Congress must approve every year by passing specific spending legislation.

A message on Voter ID from Senator Chuck Edwards

The Voter ID issue is far from over. The NC Legislature felt certain that our appeal to the US Supreme Court would yield us our desired outcome. Only a few days ago, and for reasons they state has nothing to do with the merits of our case- they have decided to not hear our arguments. We are confident that the reasons were related to confusion brought on by the illegal attempt by Governor Cooper and Attorney General Josh Stein to go behind the backs of the Legislators to have the case dismissed.

The other Senate Republicans and I fully intend to pass legislation that will ensure that voters are eligible to vote and that they are in fact who they say they are. We have now enlisted a group of attorneys to dissect our previously unfavorable ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and to give us some recommendations on our next move. I know that may people want us to rush to action. However, due to the inevitable challenge of our next piece of legislation, our probable loss to our own state Supreme Court, and our continued losses to the Fourth Circuit, we must be very calculated with our next action.

Some will rightfully argue that other states have voter ID laws in place. Many of those states, however, are under jurisdictions other than the Fourth Circuit and therefore are not under the same level of scrutiny as are we.  I believe it is important for all Republicans to recognize the makeup of the judges in the Fourth Circuit (see below) and realize that while we disagree with many of their rulings and believe that they often tend to make law from their benches- it is the reality that we currently face. This situation requires us to take a more careful and thoughtful approach instead of hasty actions that might limit our options in the future.

I have been asked to participate in a work group tasked with developing our future strategy. Our first meeting is later today. I will keep you posted on regarding relevant developments.

The current 15 active Fourth Circuit Judges by their appointor:

Obama = 6

Clinton = 4

Bush = 4

Reagan = 1

Team Trump-Pence Week 17: Safety And Security For All Americans

In tributes across the nation this week, we honored the heroic memory of the fallen men and women of law enforcement. We also vowed to honor their sacrifice by ensuring that those who protect and serve have the support, resources, and training that they deserve.

In order to make America safe again we must also restore the tradition of respect and honor that is owed to every member of the law enforcement community in America.

Read more about the President’s week below.
Congratulating The Coast Guard Class Of 2017

President Trump delivered a commencement speech at the US Coast Guard academy congratulating the men and women on all their hard work. These fine young cadets are about to take their rightful place on the front line of defense for the United States of America. They deserve not only the congratulations but the gratitude of each and every American. They chose the path of service. They chose hard work, high standards, and a very noble mission to save lives, defend the homeland, and protect America’s interests around the world. They chose the Coast Guard.

Standing With Our Men And Women In Blue

President Trump commemorated the hard work of peace officers in the United States. Each May, during Police Week, new names of fallen police officers are added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.  This year, 394 brave souls join the over 20,000 men and women who gave up their lives in the line of duty to protect us. Words cannot express the depths of our gratitude, but President Trump hopes that our actions will show our brave men and women in blue how deeply we care and how strongly we feel about protecting those who protect us. President Trump will always stand strong with you.

Celebrating Women’s Health Week

Women’s Health Week started on Mother’s Day last Sunday. President Trump recognizes the importance of providing women access to the best health information and care. Our President is committed to working with Congress to help mothers—and fathers—have paid family leave so that childcare is accessible and affordable, and to invest in the comprehensive care that women receive at community health centers.

Completing The President’s Cabinet And Putting America First

This week, Robert Lighthizer was sworn in as the new United States trade representative. With this swearing in ceremony, President Donald Trump’s Cabinet is finally complete. President Trump made a promise to the American people — to fight for trade that puts America first. And in choosing Robert Lighthizer as the U.S. Trade Representative, President Trump is keeping his promise to put America first.

Make America Great Again

Strengthening The Asian American And Pacific Islander Communities

Vice President Pence welcomed an outstanding group to the White House to join in a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. For the better part of our nation’s history, the people of Asia and the Pacific have come to America in search of a better life and a brighter future, and now our history books are literally filled with the names of trailblazers.  And today, Americans of Asian and Pacific Island descent are the fastest-growing group in America.  More than 20 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders now call the United States their home, and they make a difference in the life of our nation every single day.

Make America Great Again

President Trump is making his first trip abroad as President of the United States to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Rome, and finish in Sicily before returning home.

With the safety, security, and interests of the American people as his priority, he will strengthen old friendships and will seek new partners.

President Trump will ask them to unite for a future of peace and opposition opportunity for our peoples and the peoples of the world.

Thank you for your continued support
